Excited to start his day with the breakfast of champions: a banana, butter toast, and Wheaties. CJ the dog seems to like it too.
We decided to do something a little different today. Little Buddy and I hadn't been able to make it to the library lately for Thursday Toddler Time, so we decided to go today to get some books. However, I didn't realize that the library didn't open until 10 AM, so we ended up getting there about 20 minutes too early. Thankfully, I was able to whip out my new iPhone, download Pandora, and start playing some music for Little Buddy to dance to. He loved it! He danced and smiled at everyone else who was waiting for the doors to open.
"Hey library, open up! I want some books!"
Dancing in front of the library.
Once we got into the library, though, Mr. High Energy didn't want to settle down. It took finding some Llama Llama books to calm him enough to sit and read with me. We fittingly read Llama Llama Mad at Mama. It wasn't as good as his favorite Llama Llama Red Pajama, but one page really hit home with me.
Please stop fusing, Llama llama,
No more of this llama drama.
I think shopping's boring too--
But at least I'm here with you.
I loved this, just because it reminded me how much I love hanging out with this little guy, even when it's not easy or convenient. It especially hit home today because a little 5 month old girl with SMA (spinal muscular atrophy), whose story we had been following, had passed away. I know how much her parents wish they could have had more time with her, and I cherish every moment I have with Little Buddy.
We picked two more books to check out (one of them another Llama Llama book) and then decided to go play at the park for a bit. There were some other kids there, so Little Buddy had some playmates. He started to feel adventurous after watching the other kids and decided that today was the day to brave the big slide! He normally avoids it, but he loves it now!
My big boy!
Going down the big slide!
After the park, we came home and had lunch. He'd had such a busy morning that he started to fall asleep before he was done eating. Seeing that he was that tired, I decided to test my luck: I was going to see if he would actually nap in his crib for a full nap! I carried him upstairs, changed his diaper, turned on his music, and started to rock him. It wasn't long before I looked down to see that he was asleep in my arms. That hasn't happened in so long. I am not ashamed to admit I rocked him for a few minutes longer just to gaze at that perfect, peaceful face. I wish I could have taken a picture, but I certainly didn't want to chance disrupting the moment. My boy is certainly growing up, but he will always be my baby.
And thankfully my baby stayed asleep in his crib! He woke up twice, but managed to get himself back to sleep pretty easily. It was great to have some extra time to edit my paper before turning it in tonight. Once he did wake up, he watched some Sesame Street while I finished getting ready for school. Then we went to go meet Daddy.
While I was at class, Daddy took Little Buddy down to work on the garden. Little Buddy was so excited by the growing veggies, he just couldn't wait to harvest something. The minute Daddy's back was turned, Little Buddy picked a red pepper and ran toward Daddy yelling, "Peppa, peppa, peppa!" He then suddenly realized that he probably shouldn't have picked it and started to say "No, no, no" while attempting to reattach the pepper.
Farmer LB with his harvest! Notice how green the red pepper is? We obviously need to work on explaining "ripeness" to him.
