"I was having a
conversation with a patient at work and we were talking about kids and birthday
parties. I was telling her that for A's second birthday I was thinking about
keeping it small and doing something low key because 'some' people say I
go a little overboard sometimes.
"She said, 'Honey let me tell you something, I have a grandson who has been
trying to beat cancer the last 5 years, he was 3
when he was diagnosed and he is now 8. He has finally beat the first battle and
has just been diagnosed with a different form of cancer. You celebrate each
birthday for them like it was their first! You never know what is coming down
the road, so you make every birthday as big and as special as you can for them,
and as long as you teach them to be a good kid you spoil them as much as you
can!' "
What a beautiful sentiment! It definitely mollifies the anxiety I've been feeling in planning Little Buddy's pirate party next month. It's going to be big, and I've been worried about getting everything perfect. Now I know that it's not about making the perfect cake, finding the perfect party favors, and having the perfect activities; it's about making the day special for my Little Buddy and celebrating the past two years we've been blessed to have together as a family.
I do try to make every day a celebration of our lives together and that is what I hope this blog accomplishes. It really makes me focus on and appreciate the little moments in our lives. Like tonight, when Little Buddy helped us pick the food from the garden.
Look, I've got a bucketful Momma!
Just ecstatic over sweet peas, tomatoes, and banana peppers. Yum!
Goodnight,
LBM
