Day 127: "Mine" Field

So lately, my husband and I have been busy navigating a veritable mine field of "mines."  It seems like our toddler becomes more assertive and "terrible two-ish" every day.  Somehow he has discovered the word "mine" even though Daddy and I make a point to keep it out of our vocabulary.  When we take something away from him, we normally say "not for babies" or "that's Mommy's", yet he still managed to pick up "mine."  He takes things and yells out "Mine!" and doesn't want to give them back or he sees things that he wants, points to them, and cries out "Mine!" thinking that we'll give it to him.  When we don't give in, he then prostrates himself on the floor in misery.  It lasts for about two seconds, after which he either finds something else acceptable to play with or forgets that he was mad at me and runs over, smiling, to give me a big hug.  The hugs are my favorite.

But he is growing up every day.  Today he helped Daddy edit my paper.  Look at that red pen go!

"Hmm...let's read over Mommy's work..."

"Oh Mommy, that was a careless APA error!"

"You made an excellent connection here Mom!  Good job!"

Such a great helper he is!  However, right after I walked away to make his recommended edits, he decided to let his terrible come out again...

"Uh, I don't think so young man..."

 Caught in the act!

He didn't like being removed from the table (Mine! Mine! Mine!), but after a quick sulk on the carpet, he was distracted by his three month old Elmo balloon.  Yes, it's still floating!  Maybe it was worth the ridiculous $10 price tag after all.

 Melmo!

After lunch and a way too short nap, I decided to take Mr. Grump Bucket (you know what would make you less grumpy?  Sleep!) to the park while Daddy and Uncle C worked on the pirate ship.  Even though a gaggle of Girl Scouts had taken over the park, Little Buddy managed to find some space to have fun.

Whale rider!  Frog Rider!  A toddler of many talents.

Once we were done playing, we went home and had dinner.  After we had eaten, Little Buddy was fascinated by the noises Daddy and Uncle C were making when they blew over the rims of their empty bottles.  Uncle C tried to teach Little Buddy how to do it too.

I think Uncle C has his work cut out for him!

We finished the night off with some more play time and then a much needed bath for Little Buddy.  Since he hadn't taken much of a nap, he was definitely ready for bed.  And I'm ready for bed now!

Good night,

LBM
