Day 97: Poor Sick Baby

So Little Buddy continued to have a rough night.  By morning, we finally had his fever and vomiting under control, but now we couldn't get him to drink anything.  We were force-feeding him Pedialyte with a syringe, since he now seemed to associate drinking something with immediately throwing said something back up.  He was acting lethargic and it had been several hours since he had urinated, so we were concerned and called the doctor.  They told us to bring him in again if he still hadn't urinated in a few hours, so that is were we ended up this afternoon.

After more syringe feeding at the doctors office and still no pee, we were sent the emergency room for IV fluids.  Now we were beyond concerned, but also confused.  Little Buddy, even without pee, was starting to act more like himself.  He was getting active again and asking for bagel chips to eat.  We were still having difficulty getting him to take in liquids, but once Uncle C came to check in on us, Little Buddy seemed rejuvenated and wanted his water again.

After our several hour stay at the emergency room waiting to be seen, we had a quick examination with the doctor who said that Little Buddy didn't need IV fluids and that we should just keep syringe feeding him if necessary.  She promised that he would most likely pee very soon and if he didn't then we could bring him back in for fluids.  She also felt that he just had some sort of viral infection and that it just needed to run its course.

So, to recap:

Good News:  Little Buddy didn't have to go through the trauma of an IV.
Bad News:  He still hadn't peed in 15 hours.

Thankfully, he was starting to drink more water on his own (which was great, because waterboarding him with Pedialyte was wearing all of us out) and, lo and behold, once we got home, there was pee in his diaper!  Hopefully we've got this nasty bug on the run!

Here are some pics of evening:

Being brave and waiting for the doctor.

Finally, after being told that he doesn't need an IV, Little Buddy decides to drink some water on his own!

Snuggles and smiles at home.  "Thank you for taking such good care of me Mommy and Daddy!"

So now we are home, Little Buddy is asleep, and Daddy and I are hoping to get a little rest as well.

Night everyone,

LBM
