This thought process normally occurs on days when Little Buddy is particularly unruly. Today was one of those days. Between waking up late causing him to get off his schedule and his two year molars pushing through, the stars were aligned for a troublesome toddler.
The day started innocently enough with Little Buddy sleeping in until seven. Having a late start to the day, though, affected everything else. We got to the park late, meaning we had to shorten our play time so we could leave to pick up Daddy. He wasn't very excited to leave the park and he expressed that by screaming and throwing himself backward, with no regard for what was behind him! Why does he do this!?!?!? Every time he is mad, he just throws his head back. He doesn't care if it is on carpet, stairs, tile, whatever. Honestly, how did we survive into adulthood when we seem to have an instinct to crack our head open when we are distressed! Thankfully, I am so used to this, my hand automatically goes out to catch him.
Once he was calmed down and in his carseat, we picked up Daddy, ran an errand and had an early lunch. Little Buddy started to act sleepy at lunch, so I was certain nap time would be a success. He fell asleep on the drive home, as usual, but he woke up as soon as we pulled in the driveway. Argh! Another nap boycott. No manner of car ride or walk was working, and he was getting grumpy. We played for a bit, then I took him on another walk. I was able to get him to sleep for a short time, but it was on my chest so I wasn't able to get anything done. Oh well, I hoped he would at least be a bit more pleasant for Daddy.
After he woke up (sadly still in an upset mood--cue the head throwback), we left so I could drop him off with Daddy while I went to school. Unfortunately, there had been a wreck on the freeway bringing traffic to a halt, so we were 40 minutes late. It is terrible to be stuck in a car with an angry toddler, especially when your temperature gauge is reading 107 degrees. And you're low on gas. And said toddler throws his empty water cup in a corner you can't reach from the drivers' seat.
Eventually I was able to somehow contort my body to get his cup and refill it from my water bottle. That calmed him down a bit. I was glad when we finally made it up to meet Daddy.
While I went to class, Daddy took Little Buddy home. Though they had fun together, Little Buddy was still a bit grumpy. Besides being off his nap schedule, his incoming teeth are causing some issues. He's drooling all over the place, his cheeks are broken out, and he's just not our happy go lucky little boy. Poor guy.
Thankfully, washing his hands with some broccoli applesauce cheered him right up.
Whatever floats his boat!
Good night,
Little Buddy's Momma
