Day 104: Family Date Day: Museum of Natural Science

Even though it seems like we are being pulled one hundred different directions lately, my husband and I somehow managed to schedule a family date this morning.  It is always hard to set up something outside of our routine, so I was proud of us for making a date and sticking to it.  For this family date day, we decided to start Little Buddy's "nerd" education early and take him to the Museum of Natural Science.

My husband and I are admitted nerds.  We like museums and exhibits and the History Channel (well, when it actually shows history).  We had gotten a Groupon to go to the the Civil War exhibit and were excited to take Little Buddy to see it and the other parts of the Museum.

Before we left, though, we had to get into our family date attire.  We had found matching shirts for Daddy and Little Buddy last week and I just couldn't resist.  Yes, we're that family.  :)

 My favorite boys!

"Mommy, come be in the picture too!"

I wore pink checks for solidarity.  :)

We then headed to the Museum.  Little Buddy was very excited right from the start, pointing at and calling to the dinosaurs.  Since the Civil War exhibit turned out to be more based on letters and writings as opposed to artifacts (meaning that it was just not very interesting to Little Buddy), we continued on to explore the animal/habitat exhibits (he really liked the civet and any birds), the fossils (we made sure to introduce him to the trilobite), the gems and minerals area (great for working on color recognition!), and the energy hall (learning about the business from Daddy)!

"This is a trilobite Little Buddy.  It's the state fossil of Ohio!"

Checking out the dinosaurs with Mommy.

He loved naming the color of all the gems and minerals, but "Purple!" was the favorite one to call out today.

Learning about drill bits from Daddy!

After a great time at the museum, we headed to the gift shop (a few Civil War items and a dinosaur board book came home with us), and then out to lunch.  Little Buddy smiled and chatted while he ate his grilled cheese.  He was so much fun to hang out with today!  I am so glad that we took the time to go do something out of the ordinary as a family.  My husband and I agreed that there is always going to be something else to do, more chores and more work, but we have to set aside some moments to do something special.  I hope we can continue this new tradition!

Have a good night,

LBM
