Day 38: Park Time!

Another busy day with Little Buddy!  Tuesdays are my class days, so we got started early with a run.  I was hoping that by starting my run early, Little Buddy would fall asleep at the end of it, giving me time to work on my class presentation.

No such luck.  Anti-Nap Boy reared his ugly head again, refusing to fall asleep.  However, I wasn't taking no for an answer.  After my 4.5 mile run, we walked another 1.5 miles until he was forced into sleepy submission.

While he napped, I was able to edit my presentation and take a shower.  Once he woke up, it was time to meet our friends at a park for a play date.

See-saw fun!

We had a lot of fun at the park, even after Little Buddy gave himself two more bumps on his noggin!  My goal is to have one day where he doesn't hit his head.  Just one day!  We'll see if that ever happens.

Later on I dropped him off with Daddy for Boys' Night In while I headed to class.  Daddy says they had a lot of fun, but Little Buddy is now very insistent about feeding himself his applesauce.  He can hold his own spoon, thank-you-very-much.  Now that he has learned the "no" head shake, life is getting interesting. :)

Good night,

Day 37: Batman! (Though I Would Have Liked "Napman" Too)

Little Buddy and I managed to start our week off with Baby Boot Camp.  It is always tough to get going on Mondays, so I was happy we made it.  I had a good workout and Little Buddy got to play with his friends at the playground.

After our workout, I headed to Target to take care of some errands.  Once I parked, I looked back:  Little Buddy was sound asleep.  Hoping against hope he would stay asleep for a while (he had woken up a bit early and seemed tired most of the morning), I abandoned my Target plans and headed home.  Maybe, just maybe, he would stay asleep long enough once we got home for me to get some work done.  My hopes were dashed as we pulled into the driveway and I heard a distinct "Mama?" from the backseat.  *Sigh*

I rallied my spirits.  He was sure to take a nap after lunch.  In fact, we could take a walk to the neighborhood playground. If he stayed awake through the walk, I would let him play and wear himself out.  Then he would certainly nap and I would be able to cross some homework and housework off my To Do list.  Confident in this, we ate lunch and then were playground bound.

After a playing for nearly an hour, Little Buddy started to rub his eyes and yawn.  I happily settled him into his stroller, looking forward to his nap and my 30 minutes of work time.  However, as with most of my mommy plans, it went awry.  Instead of falling asleep, Little Buddy seemed to be getting more and more active.  *Sigh*  No nap it is.

A friend once asked me how I managed Little Buddy's lack of napping.  I told her I was just playing the hand that I was dealt.  It is hard sometimes, especially when I need to do stuff for school, when Little Buddy doesn't nap.  It can get frustrating, but I just know that is who he is.  He is a great night sleeper, but not a napper.  There are certainly going to be more times down the line where he is not going to do what I want or expect him to do.  This is just training for those.  :)

Anyway, after no nap and dinner, we did find out that Little Buddy finally fits into the Batman pajamas we bought eons ago.  Complete with cape, he was pretty adorable running around the living room.  I am pretty obsessed with these pjs, so I apologize for the picture overload.

"Where's my sidekick?"

"C'mon Super Scout, time to fight crime!"

The Dynamic Duo

"Let's go Super Scout!  I think there are some cookies that need rescuing!"

"What Mommy?  No, I didn't say anything about any cookies..."

"But if you would like to give me some, I will certainly take them.  I will even say please."  :)

Now I am worn out.  Night everyone!

Day 36: Super Bowl with a Super Boy

Just a quick post since I am about to fall asleep typing...

Just a normal Sunday, working on the garden and the pirate ship outside with Daddy and Uncle C.  He also enjoyed running around the living room like a mad man during the first part of the Super Bowl.

Day 35: By Water, by Horse, and by Wagon!

There were thunderstorms throughout the night, so my run this morning got rained out.  For a bright moment, I thought I could sleep in, but Little Buddy had other ideas.  The rain woke him up around five.

Seeing he was still tired, I rocked him back to sleep.  Looking at his face settling into slumber, lit up occasionally by flashes of lightening from outside, lulled me into a thankful, blessed mommy moment.  He was so peaceful and perfect and miraculous.  My heart still warms at the memory.

Once he was asleep, I tried to lay him down.  "Tried" being the operative word, as he immediately woke back up.  Just like a reverse baby doll, his eyes open as soon as you lay him down.  Oh well, might as well get an early start on a busy day.

"Let's go!  Look, I've already styled my hair with peanut butter!"

We went to swim class, where Little Buddy was more than willing to kick up a storm in the pool with Daddy.  Afterward, it was time to get a haircut.  I wish I could take pictures of him getting his hair cut, but my hands are always occupied trying to get him to sit still.  He was able to control himself long enough for the stylist to cut most of his hair, so we rewarded him with a ride on the carousel before we went to lunch.

Little Buddy actually fell fast asleep on the way home and stayed that way for about TWO MORE HOURS!  After the lack of nap yesterday, this was pretty miraculous, especially with both myself and my husband art home to make use of the time.  We were able to get quite a bit of work done before Little Buddy woke up and we went on a wagon ride with Chesney.

I am the Master of my Destiny!

We ended the day with church and dinner.  He was being quite the mischief maker at church, but just when we were at our wits end, he smiled at both of us and pulled us both in for a big family hug.  Who can resist that?  With one of his arms wrapped around each of our necks, hugging us in close, all my husband and I could do was look at each other and smile.  We are truly blessed.

Now Little Buddy is in bed and I am headed that way too, since I are going to try to make up my run in the morning.

Good night!

Day 34: Raining on the Nap Parade

Today Little Buddy and I started the day with Baby Boot Camp followed by a few errands and then home for lunch.  He was having a bit of a rough day since both he (and his daddy) woke up with sinus congestion.  With as warm as it has been lately, allergy season is kicking in a bit early.  Sadly, Little Buddy seems to have inherited the same sensitivity.

Following lunch, it should have been nap time, but it was raining.  Rainy days are not good nap days for us because it means we can't go for a walk in the stroller.  Instead, we had to settle for a car ride.  We all jumped in the car and 30 minutes later we came home with this in the backseat:

That's right, an awake, snot-covered baby.  No nap.  Ugh.

We decided to eat dinner a bit early and attempt an early bedtime since a nap wasn't in the picture.  Little Buddy was quite happy to eat his pumpkin yogurt sooner rather than later:

Now it is bath and bedtime!

Day 33: Not Quite a Zoo Day

Today Little Buddy and I went downtown with some of our friends.  The plan was to get a run in and then head into the zoo.  Of course, traffic was crazy (Houston drivers get a little nuts with the barest amount of rain) so we got there a bit later than we intended.  By the time we finished our run, it was time to eat.  We ate outside the zoo at some picnic benches and played on the swings.

Little Buddy was a pretty big fan of swinging.  Unfortunately, after that, he started to get grumpy and managed to pull a stroller down on himself (he's fine, but hopefully he learned not to try to climb up the back of the stroller).  I knew then it was nap time.  Sadly, we had to leave without going into the zoo and seeing our other friends that were there.  It was the right decision though, as Little Buddy passed out about two minutes after being buckled into his carseat.  He certainly wouldn't have made it through a zoo visit today.

Once we got home and woke up, we just played until Daddy got home.  Little Buddy is so excited to see Daddy when he comes home that he waits at the window for him.  This is the sight my husband is greeted with each day he gets home:

How could you not have a great day after seeing this?  :)

Goodnight,

Day 32: One Month Milestone!

Wow!  It's February already, which means I have actually remained faithful to this New Years resolution for one solid month!  Wahoo!  One month down, eleven to go.  Time to toughen my resolve.  :)

Anyway, today was Wednesday, meaning that Little Buddy had school.  Normally we play outside after school, but since it had rained recently the backyard was a mud pit.  I decided to treat Little Buddy to a Wonderwild day instead.

"Hey Little Buddy, what's cooking?"

"I bet it's something tasty!"

"Microwaved AND baked?  Such a chef!"

"Ball pit time!"

 "This is so fun Mommy!"

One last slide before we go home!

Such a big boy already.  Love him!

Night everyone,
