Day 281: Sea World San Antonio with an Elmo Surprise!

After a bit of a rough night of sleep for all involved parties, we did manage to get up and get ready to go to Sea World.  Growing up, I and my bother (Little Buddy's Uncle J) went to Sea World in Ohio every summer with our parents (Mamaw and Papaw to Little Buddy).  I have a lot of great childhood memories from Sea World and couldn't wait to take Little Buddy for the first time!

It was a tough morning because we were all still pretty tired.  We rallied, though, after a good breakfast at the hotel.

"Have some bagel, Lion.  We have a big day ahead."

A cold front that came through during the night also complicated our plans, as it turned out to be colder than the forecasts had predicted.  We had to make a quick run to Target to get some warm clothes.  Once we were all bundled up, we were on our way!

Dressed warmly and ready for Shamu!

Once we got there, we started walking around the park and deciding what to see first.  All of a sudden, we heard some familiar voices.  Unbeknownst to Daddy and I, Sea World had a Sesame Street Park and the characters were all there putting on a show.  Little Buddy couldn't believe his eyes!

The Count and Elmo!

Meeting Cookie Monster!

Riding the Sesame Street Carousel.

It was a fantastic experience, but the only problem was that Little Buddy didn't want it to stop!  He cried when the characters finished their show and left.

"No leave, Elmo!  Come back!"

He was so upset, we promised him we would bring him back to see the show again.  We then tried to distract him with some of the attractions we were actually there to see.  Of course, we doubted they could hold a candle to Elmo now, but we thought we would try!

Watching the alligators being fed.  Little Buddy loved watching them "Chomp! Chomp!"

"A dolphin, where?!?"

"Now we see it!"

Soon it was time for the next Sesame Street show.  Again, Little Buddy was entranced!  I think he has a bit of an addiction.

Thank the stars, Elmo and gang are back!

Getting tapped by Abby's magic wand!

Daddy taking Little Buddy to meet Elmo!

He gave Elmo a high five and was then totally star-struck!

After another meltdown over the departure of the characters, Daddy and I broke down and bought Little Buddy a Halloween Elmo, now lovingly named "Elmo Bones."  It was love at first sight!  Thinking we now had our bases covered, we began our trek over to show Little Buddy the real star of the show, Shamu!  By the time we got there, however, we looked into the stroller and saw this:

Completely worn out.

Daddy and I were temporarily befuddled.  Now what?  We hadn't originally planned on staying the entire day, but it was three more hours until the next Shamu show and we had promised that Little Buddy could see a whale.  We decided to walk around for a bit and see if our little guy woke up.  It was nice for Daddy and I to be able to walk and talk by ourselves for a little bit until we heard wake-up noises coming from the stroller about an hour later.  Then it was back to sight-seeing!

Penguins!

The Count!  We found his "un-haunted" castle and Little Buddy was overjoyed to be surprised with the Count at the end of the maze!

He loved it so much, we had to do it a second time!

Found Little Buddy's favorite Sea World animal: Sea Lions!  Papaw will be proud!

Barking at the Sea Lions!

The biggest sea lion we ever saw: an 1,100 pound rescue named Bogart!  He was huge!

The baby sea lion pups.

Feeding the ducks!

Flamingos!

We finally made it to the Shamu show.  Little Buddy loved watching the whales jump, but of course I wasn't able to get a pictures.  We left after that, thoroughly worn out from our day, to go get some food.  Even though it was a long day, it was totally worth it to make this little guy happy.

All smiles after a successful day at Sea World!

Cross your fingers that we can all get some good rest tonight.  Daddy's conference starts tomorrow, so Little Buddy and I are going to the Alamo for our adventure!

Night all,

LBM
