We were surprised that we were actually able to entertain him at the house until it was time to go to the hospital. As we buckled him into the carseat, Little Buddy remembered that he hadn't had anything to eat or drink. As he cried for water, I felt so bad that I couldn't get him any.
Check-in at the hospital went smoothly and it was all too soon that we were in the pre-op room. My anxiety was certainly starting to rise. Again, I wasn't scared of the surgery itself, but I hated the thought of Little Buddy going under anesthesia. He did really well getting ready for the procedure, though, and charmed all the nurses that he saw. When they gave him the sedative prior to taking him back for the surgery, it was a little funny to watch him get loopy.
Ready to start.
As they went to take him away, my throat began to seize up and my eyes filled with tears. Then, the nurse that was taking him (who had been very nice) didn't realized I hadn't kissed him goodbye yet and started to take him away. I nearly lost it and quickly, tearfully called out. Thankfully, the other nurses realized what happened and brought him right back to me. After a kiss and a hug, I let him go. That moment was the absolute hardest thing. I hate giving up my baby.
My husband and I then went to sit in the waiting room. We got some lunch and settled in to wait. However, it ended up being much quicker than we expected and a nurse was coming to get us before we knew it. We couldn't wait to be reunited with our little guy! He was pretty grumpy as he came out of the anesthesia, but we cuddled him until he fully woke up.
Back in my arms again.
Everything got even better when he could have water again!
Little Buddy did really well in recovery and it was soon time for us to go home. Our little guy was a still a bit groggy, so he was content cuddling on the couch and watching Elmo for awhile. His little belly button has dissolvable stitches covered by sterile tape. Otherwise, it looks pretty good.
Watching Elmo and displaying his boo-boo.
Because Little Buddy was doing so well, Daddy said it would be ok if I went to class. He promised he would call if he needed anything or if Little Buddy wasn't feeling well. Turns out, Little Buddy just needed some Elmo-watching rest time before he was rejuvenated to his pre-surgery rambunctious self. His appetite was certainly back to normal!
Enjoying his post-surgery dinner!
Now all we have is a follow-up appointment in two weeks and this whole things will be officially done! As thankful as I am that this surgery we have been worrying about for two years is finally over and that it went well, I am even more thankful to everyone for their love and
support. I know in the big scheme of things
it wasn't that serious, but we were still anxious about it and we
appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers!
With gratitude,
LBM
