Day 153: It's Never Boring

The best thing about having a kid?  It's finding the joy in the little, mundane parts of the day.  Take breakfast for instance.  Before Little Buddy, I would just have mindlessly made my oatmeal and sat in silence eating it.  Boring, right?  Now there is far more pageantry.  This morning, in addition to our lively breakfast conversation (usually involving some discussion of both Elmo and Al Roker), Little Buddy insisted on wearing his hat to the meal.  Obviously we need to start dressing a bit more formally for our dining.

Our next adventure was just attempting to leave the house...on time.  Honestly, this is an entirely new adventure each day.  I try to think of ways to get us moving and out the door, and Little Buddy keeps thinking up creative new ways to detain us.  If it's not a fresh poopy diaper, it's hiding workout equipment, water bottles, or shoes.  I always tell pregnant women that, before their baby comes, they should just time themselves getting our the door or when they run errands and just remember that experience.  I miss the simplicity of those days, but I also can't help but laugh as I change Little Buddy again and he gives me a knowing smirk and a giggle.  That little stinker!

We did finally make it out the door and to Boot Camp (though Little Buddy had already filled his diaper again, thus making us late for warm-up).  After lots of running, squatting, and wheelbarrowing (turns out I hate those now as I much as hated them in grade school), I freed Little Buddy to play in the park and the splash pad.  Just watching him run to go play with his friends made my heart swell.  What a great way to spend your day!

Every meal time is an adventure with a child, but it becomes a super adventure when you involve 13 kids and 8 mommas! There is certainly nothing routine about that!  I'm pretty sure Cafe Express was ready to see us happily on our way after one broken pepper shaker, two spilled drinks, lots of food dropped/thrown on the floor, and one "painting with ranch dressing" incident.  It was crazy, but it was fun being with all of our friends.  Lunches before kids were just so quiet and clean and easy.  Obviously they were just boring.  :)

The rest of the day went pretty smoothly.  Little Buddy took another great nap and then my neighbor girl came to play with him again while I worked to get stuff done.  Then Daddy came home and it was time for dinner, bath, some playtime, and bed.  Besides several pee leakage incidents from my super water drinker's diaper, all went well.  And really, what was my life before getting peed on was nearly an expected part of my day?

Boring, that's what it was.

Good night,
