Following BBC and fun at the playground, we rushed to go pick Daddy up for lunch. We've determined all the stars that need to align for Little Buddy to have a successful long afternoon nap:
Step 1: Each lunch immediately following Boot Camp. If he falls asleep, even for ten minutes, he awakes completely recharged and all hope for the long nap is gone.
Step 2: Following lunch, change his diaper and go home immediately. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go directly home.
Step 3: Wheel Little Buddy into the house in his stroller and be absolutely quiet. Keep the dog AWAY from him.
Step 4: Pray. And don't breathe too loudly.
My husband and I picked Black Walnut for lunch today and almost ruined Step 1. Black Walnut is farther away than some of our other lunchtime choices (by farther away, I mean about five minutes farther) and it was a struggle to keep Little Buddy's eyes open. We sang and rolled the windows down, trying our best to keep him up. He almost succumbed as we parked, but thankfully my husband got his attention and woke him up. A quick smile at Daddy and he was ready to eat!
After lunch, we dropped Daddy off and came home. Since I had followed the steps to the letter, I was assured at least 90 minutes of homework time. Sadly, a little over an hour later, he woke himself up sobbing. I waited to see if he would settle himself, but the wails simply got worse. I went and picked him up and, of course, he fell asleep on me. I tried to lay him back down, but he started whimpering again. I then gave up and laid on the couch, with Little Buddy in my arms, and fired up the DVR. For the next hour and a half, I had a great cuddle nap buddy. I could be annoyed that I couldn't get more work done, but instead I choose to be grateful to have this little guy in my arms. I know the day will come that he won't want to lay still with me and just be, so I am willing to take the time I can. I also like to think that he just loves his mommy so much that laying on me is a special treat for him. Plus, he slept well and woke up very happy, so it all worked out.
We had fun playing the rest of the day. His long nap had put him in a great mood. He was smiling and playing all through dinner.
"Look at me! Look at me!"
"I can touch my tongue!"
Such a crazy kid. :)
Night everyone,
LBM
