Daddy had to head to Pennsylvania for work for a few days, so Little Buddy and I are starting the week out on our own. We gave Daddy kisses and hugs before he left this morning, but we already miss him and are looking forward to his return on Wednesday!
"Hmm...what mischief can I get into today?"
To keep our minds off of missing Daddy, we headed to BBC this morning. It was a great workout, but it was hot! Little Buddy was even thirstier than usual, leading to my refilling of his water cup five times and some subsequent leakage out of his diaper. Ugh. That added stroller washing to my chore list for the day.
After BBC, the plan was to head take Little Buddy out for lunch so that he could just fall asleep on the way home. But when I put him in the car, he was very awake and alert and I figured we could actually make it home to eat lunch before his nap. It would save time, money, and give me a longer nap at home instead of wasting part of it driving home.
Bad idea.
It didn't matter that he seemed alert when I put him in the car, because as soon as we started going, he started falling asleep. I tried to keep him up, but when we got home he had been out for a solid 15 minutes. I knew I was in trouble. All he needs is a quick refresh and his batteries are charge. I though, naively, that since had only been 15 minutes, I could wake him up to feed and change him, before putting him easily back to sleep.
Bad idea number two.
He did wake up easily enough (especially after Chesney came over to give him kisses) and was perfectly thrilled to get a lunch of baby pizza, mango, and orange. He was not as thrilled to go back to sleep. After a half hour walk, he was still quite awake, so I resigned myself to my fate. He always manages to do this on days that we have afternoon plans (we were hoping to go the splash pad with friends after his nap) and on days when I have a ton to do (giant paper due tomorrow). Ugh.
We played for a bit, with me praying that he would go down for a nap early enough that it didn't end up pushing back his bedtime (important paper writing time needed!). Oddly enough, he ended up demanding a redo of the afternoon. He went back to the kitchen, climbed into his booster seat, and demanded a second lunch of "gilled teez", pumpkin, and more mango. My son is obviously a hobbit. Anyway, after filling himself up for the second time this afternoon, he was much more amenable to a nap. It was two hours late, but it was a nap.
Once he woke up, we went outside to play, and hopefully to wear him out enough for an easy bedtime. I filled up his water table and watched him laugh happily as he splashed around in it.
After the water table, a few Cozy Coupe rides, and some Hide and Seek, Little Buddy asked to have dinner outside. The mosquitoes hadn't been bothering us, so I agreed.
"Nothing's better than dining al fresco!"
However, the mosquitoes all of a sudden came back with a vengeance, so we went inside to finish our dinner. And to put broccoli in our hair, because really, that was Little Buddy's main goal.
What a mess!
Following a much needed bath, I managed to get Little Buddy to bed. Well, he was in bed at least, not so much asleep, but he wasn't angry. I listened to him quietly talk to himself for about 45 minutes before he nodded off.
And now it is paper writing time for Mommy. Oh yay?
Night everyone,
