Day 60: School Blues

Another Wednesday, another day at school for Little Buddy.  It is always a bit hard for me to drop him off at school on Wednesdays because I never get to spend much time with him on Tuesdays, since I have to go to school.  I miss him, plain and simple, but I know it is for the best.  He loves school and I do need one day a week for homework or doctor appointments.  But it is still tough.

It was a little harder today, since I got a call from the school a little before lunch time, telling me that Little Buddy was having a rough day.  He was crying off and on and they weren't sure why.  They didn't want me to come pick him up, but just wanted to keep me informed, which I greatly appreciated.  They assured me that if he didn't settle down after lunch and nap time, they would call me back.  Needless to say, I was a bit distracted for the rest of the afternoon, expecting another call.  Thankfully, there wasn't, so I hoped that he was feeling better.

When I picked him up, I could see that he'd had a tough day.  The pollen count was up today and his sinuses were acting up.  He may have even had a sinus headache, poor guy.  Also, one of his teachers, Ms. S, was out today and I think he missed her.  He is pretty attached to her.  Anyway, I was glad that we were headed to meet friends at Wonderwild.  That was sure to perk him up.

And it did.  We had a lot of fun and were so happy to spend the afternoon with our friends.  After two hours we headed home to meet Daddy for dinner.  We waited on the front porch for him, and Little Buddy's face just lit up when Daddy pulled in the driveway.  It always warms my heart to see those two together.

After dinner, playtime, and a bath, it was time for bed.  It was then I realized that I hadn't gotten a picture of Little Buddy all day!  Not having a phone has really cramped my picture taking.  I will try to do better, but here are some bedtime pictures for you to enjoy tonight.

"Pictures, Mommy?  Now?  It's bedtime, silly Mommy!"

Good night,

Day 59: Naps are for the Weak

Tuesdays are normally crazy days for Little Buddy and I, and today was no exception.  We headed out the door to Boot Camp, the playground, and lunch with Daddy this morning.  Unfortunately, Little Buddy got a bit too excited on the slide and fell, knocking around his eye.  Baby's first shiner.  Hopefully it won't bruise too much.

After lunch, we headed home.  I was looking forward to Little Buddy taking his nap and me getting my reading done before class.  Of course, Tuesdays are the one day that I absolutely NEED him to nap, and today was the day he decided that the nice, long nap wasn't worth it.  Ugh!  An episode of Sesame Street was in order for some distraction so I could get ready.

So now you sleep!

After I dropped him off with Daddy, I headed to class and he and Daddy went home for Boys' Night In.  Little Buddy is getting pretty good at throwing a ball, so my husband thought he could throw Chesney's tennis ball and Chesney could retrieve it.  Not so much.  Little Buddy is a much better retriever than our dog.  :)

Day 58: Excited to Play!

This morning, Daddy was a little late waking up, so I went to get Little Buddy out of his crib in the morning.  It is normally my husband's routine, so that he can see Little Buddy before leaving, and the little guy was a bit surprised to see Mommy.  He kept questioning as to where Dada was and was so excited to see him when we came downstairs. He was also excited that Daddy was making his current favorite morning food:  Toast!  It's his new obsession.

The rest of our day went pretty smoothly with boot camp, playground time, lunch with friends, and an afternoon nap.  The real fun started at dinner time, when our friend K who is in town for work came over.  Little Buddy loves K, and they had tons of fun playing.  Normally Little Buddy starts winding down for the night after dinner, but not tonight.  No he was just full of laughs and giggles as he got out nearly every toy he owns to show K.  It was fun to watch those two play.

Little Engineer

Now before I sign off here, I have one quick note.  My phone took a swim in the washer yesterday, leaving me with no phone and no convenient picture taking device.  This is going to make it harder to take pictures to post, but I will certainly keep trying!

Good night,

Day 57: Another Day in Paradise

Getting ready for a full day!

Little Buddy started the day off by running around Church like a madman.  We sit in the back area of the church, which does give him some room to roam thankfully.  I started to feel bad for the other people in the back who were forced to listen to his shouts of joy, but I reminded myself that they chose to sit back in the children's area, so they should be prepared for the intrinsic "benefits" that come from sitting there.  Anyway, who could be upset with a child that joyful and happy?

We ran a few errands after church and then came home so Little Buddy could play outside a bit before lunch.  He loves to be outside and the weather has certainly been cooperating.  I sometimes can't believe it is February!  After lunch, Little Buddy took a good nap, allowing my husband and I to get some work done.

Later on, Uncle C came up to work on the playhouse.  Little Buddy was very excited to see him since he'd been waiting all day for him to come over.  Little Buddy then worked very hard, both out in the yard and at dinner, to make himself the messiest he could so that he would have to take a bath.  That boy loves to take baths!

Anyway, it was just another great day in the sunshine with my buddy.  Looking forward to another great week!

Good night,

Day 56: How Does Your Garden Grow?

I had an eight mile run this morning, so I had to leave the house before Little Buddy woke up.  I hate that.  I hate not starting my day off with that laugh and smile.  I know it sounds silly, but seeing him smile at me in the morning just makes me happy all day.  The only thing that made up for missing it today was when he saw me at swim class and immediately called out "Mama!", smiled, and blew me a kiss.  I honestly live for little moments like that.

We had a quick little outing to get him some new clothes at Gymboree.  He did manage to run out of the store and to the Germ Tree, so we gave him a couple minutes to show Daddy how well he slides down the slide before we headed home.

True to his new nap schedule, Little Buddy passed out on the way home.  He gave my husband and I two whole baby-free hours again to work!  We are both excited and nervous about this new schedule.  Excited because we've been able to get so much done, nervous because we don't want to get use to it in case it disappears as quickly as it came.

After dinner, which included the return of the yogurt goatee monster, we all went outside to plant our garden!  Little Buddy and I are going to get busy growing this spring!

"I get to plant a garden?!?!"

Daddy teaching Little Buddy how to plant the tomatoes.

Little Buddy just wants to water everything!

"Hurry up and plant, Mommy!  The plants need water!"

"Is it my turn yet, Mommy?"

Our garden!

Day 55: Get Along Lil Doggie

My little prince woke me up with a kiss again this morning.  Could I ask for anything more?  :)

We had a fairly routine day today.  After going to Baby Boot Camp, we met Daddy for a quick lunch.  We then headed home to see if we could capitalize on Little Buddy's newfound nap streak.  All was well until I rolled him in the door in his stroller and our dog, Chesney, licked his face.  Argh!  Of course Little Buddy woke up and started crying.  It was windy, but I bundled him up to take him for a walk to see if I could settle him back down.  Thankfully, after five minutes, he fell back asleep.  We quickly returned home, only to see that the door had blown open.  I thought nothing of it, since we had only been gone a few minutes.  It wasn't until I realized that Chesney hadn't gotten up to greet us that I realized that there may be a problem.  Yup, the dog had run off.  While the baby was asleep, of course.  Ugh.  I was dreading having to wake Little Buddy up just to go find the dog that had caused the problem in the first place.

I decided to just take a quick walk behind the houses to check if I could see him and thankfully I did.  I called him and that crazy dog came running.  Thank God, because Little Buddy ended up sleeping for two hours.  I almost didn't know what to do with myself, having that much time!  What a lovely dilemma.  I was able to get some reading done for school, a shower, and some housework.

After Little Buddy woke up and Daddy got home, we headed to our church's fish fry.  Since today was Go Texan Day, we dressed Little Buddy in his cowboy gear.  He loved running around in his boots and really liked the fish too.  Definitely a good day.

Day 54: My Prince Charming

I was woken up in one of the best ways today.  My husband had gone up to get Little Buddy and I was still asleep in my bed.  I awoke to the sound of my husband whispering, "Go give Momma a kiss" and the sound of a 33 pound toddler crawling across the sheets.  Next thing I know, I'm getting the most perfect little peck on the cheek.  I opened my eyes to see the most joyful grin directed right at me.  There may be no better way to start the day.

Later on, we headed to the area park to play for a bit.  He was pretty happy going down the slide and swinging in the swings.

After an hour playing, we headed over to the library for Toddler Time.  We hadn't made it there in about a month.  School and half-marathon training had just messed with our schedule too much, along with Little Buddy's changing nap schedule.  We picked out two books for the week and had a great time listening to the stories, dancing, and singing.  I am so glad we were able to make it back and hope to keep going on a regular basis.

We rushed home after story time, with me trying desperately to keep Little Buddy awake.  If I could keep him awake long enough to feed him lunch, I may be able to squeeze another long nap out of him.  Of course, he's half asleep when we get home, so I keep talking to him to keep him awake.  I did manage to get him to sit down at the table, but he wasn't fully awake.  It was hilarious to watch him sleep eat his lunch.  Eating strawberries and smiling, all with his eyes shut.

I did manage to get him to take that long nap.  Three hours to be exact.  However, he did wake up after an hour.  I picked him and he fell back asleep in arms.  Another afternoon where I could have been more productive, but still not a bad way to pass an afternoon.

I love him so much.

Day 53: Ashes and Playdates

It was an early rise and shine this morning so that Little Buddy and I could make it to church for Ash Wednesday.  At 6:30 AM.  Yikes!  Little Buddy behaved very well.  He also hit it off with all the old ladies, blowing them kisses throughout the service.  Finally, he managed to sit through Confession with me without getting us excommunicated.

"Got my ashes!"

Following church, it was time to drop him off at school.  I knew he would go through several diapers at school today, especially since he'd drank a lot of water at church, but I was unprepared to only have ONE left in his pack when I picked him up.  This normally wouldn't be a probably, but I hadn't refilled the diaper bag and we were headed to a play date.  Uh-oh.

We just went with it.  Thankfully, he miraculously hadn't filled his current diaper yet, so we decided to press on with our plans.  It was such a nice day, we met some friends at Market Street and played in the fountains.  Once we were done with the water, we treated ourselves to some frozen yogurt before heading over to Teddy Bear Park to play with the rest of our friends.  Little Buddy started off a bit grumpy, since he'd had such a busy day so far, but after some time and a snack he started to have some fun.

Later on that evening, Little Buddy got to wear his Home Depot apron.  Daddy had gotten it long ago when we were trying to get pregnant, hoping to have a little helper on his projects someday.  We just found it when we cleaned out the garage this weekend, so we had to try it on.

"Working on my project!"

And now it is time for bed!

Have a great night,

VTB

Day 52: Happy Mardi Gras!

Today we started the day with a make-up swim class.  This was my first time swimming with Little Buddy since my eye surgery in November and it was a lot of fun to swim with him again.  It is still hard to believe how much he has grown since we started swimming class.  He's even kicking and climbing out of the pool by himself now!

Once we got home, we had lunch. After we ate our lunch, he was looking a little tired.  I asked if he was done and he smiled so big at me and asked to be lifted up.  I picked him up and he fell asleep in my arms in that moment.  I changed his full diaper while he slept on the changing table.  I thought about laying him in the crib, but decided not to press my luck and put him in the stroller as usual.  He slept for two hours again!  I'm still afraid to classify this one big nap as a "habit" yet, but it is pretty amazing.  I get so much done!  When he woke up, it was Elmo time.

Little Buddy and two of his favorite things:  His water cup and Elmo.  I doubt he will give either up for Lent.

Then it was time for me to go to class.  Since my husband had a day trip out of town, Uncle C came up to watch Little Buddy.  He was very happy to see Uncle C!  We are so lucky Uncle C decided to do graduate school in Texas; I love that he and Little Buddy have such a great relationship.

Day 51: Can't See the Baby for the Blueberry Bushes

Today was the last day of Daddy's four day weekend at home with us.  It's been a lot of fun, and I can't thank my husband enough for helping with Little Buddy and the housework so I could bury myself in homework.

Little Buddy and I started the day with boot camp.  We were excited that our friend Sarah and her baby E came to work out with us today!  After class, we were supposed to leave and go meet Daddy for lunch, but someone didn't want to vacate the playground.

We finally made it to lunch.  Afterwards, the plan was to go home and work while Little Buddy napped.  Unfortunately, Little Buddy had other plans.  Instead, we went and ran some errands hoping to tire him out.  The last errand we did was picking out the plants for Little Buddy and I's garden!  After sprinting through the aisles at Home Depot, Little Buddy finally wore himself out for a nap on the drive home.

Do you think we got enough to fill our garden?

Points if you can spot the sleeping baby in plant jungle!

Later on this evening, I was drinking an IBC Rootbeer and, when I was finished, blew into the top of the bottle so it made the bottle whistle sound.  Little Buddy was fascinated so we let him try.  He doesn't understand the blowing part, so he holds it up to his lips and goes "Whooo!  Whooo!"

Sweet dreams,

Day 50: Ey wuv ew!

My heart completely melted today.  Little Buddy, after hearing my husband and I tell him that we loved him before bed last night, repeated it back to us!  "Ey wuv ew" was the most amazing thing I ever heard.  Not sure if it was a fluke, we asked him again today.  Sure enjoy, he still "wuvs" us!  My heart nearly burst out of my chest.  Between that and his the family hugs he gives (puts one arm around each of us at the same time, squeezes tight, and giggles), I am pretty sure I know what heaven will be like.

Later, he decided that living in a laundry basket would be a good idea.

Why do we buy them toys?  A laundry basket and a purple sock seem to suffice.  :)

Day 49: Cowboy Up!

After Little Buddy's swim class today, we took him on a very important trip.  It was time to go to Cavender's and get Little Buddy his first pair of cowboy boots!  He was pretty excited.

 "I think they work Mommy!"

I am pretty sure he likes them. :)

Close up shot.

He also got a new pearl snap and cowboy hat (the hat didn't last long on his head, so this is the only picture I could get).  He is definitely ready for rodeo now!

Good night,

Day 48: Bath Night

Today starts off a fun four day weekend with Daddy at home!  Little Buddy had a great day playing at Boot Camp and then going to lunch with Daddy and I.  However, he had so much excitement that he fell asleep at the lunch table!  It was pretty cute watching his eyes get drowsy and close.

The rest of the day was spend playing with Little Buddy and working around the house.  It was bath night tonight, so I managed to get a couple good pictures.  He does love his baths!

He's a pretty adorable kid, if I do say so myself.

Goodnight,

Day 47: My Wild Child

This morning, I was cleaning up the kitchen, and noticed that Little Buddy had gotten quiet in the living room.  Quiet normally means trouble with a toddler, so I peaked my head in, prepared for the worst.  This is what I saw:

 My little bookworm.

Totally absorbed in the animal magazine Grammy and Pop sent him.

Since it was still muddy outside, I decided to take Little Buddy to Wonderwild to play.  He seemed to be pleased with the decision.

Hanging out in the ball pit!

Sliding all by himself!

Climbing all over!

That's my wild child.  ;)

I sadly didn't get any pictures of his dancing.  He's getting pretty good, shaking his arms up and down, clapping, rolling his arms in a circle.  I also didn't get pictures of him running up and hugging me.  I need to get my husband to take some of those pictures, since those hugs and the look of joy that accompanies them are my favorite things in the world.  I am certainly going to need those memories once he becomes a teenager, lol.

Soon it was lunch time.  I was pretty impressed that Little Buddy can now hold his food pouch and just eat from it, as opposed to squirting it across the room.

After lunch, we went home and Little Buddy took a decent nap again.  He slept about an hour on his own in the stroller.  Then he woke up, climbed out, and then asked to be picked up.  I lifted him into my arms and he fell asleep again for another hour.  I did lose some housework time, but it was worth it to nap on the couch with him.

Unfortunately, he woke up a bit of grouch.  Some phone time with Daddy and Grandma helped get his smile back.

Once Daddy got home, Little Buddy was excited to play with Daddy's work bag.  It was pretty adorable.

After being cute all day, he did trick us into letting our guard down.  Besides somehow Stretch-Armstronging himself up to nearly pull a pan off the stove onto his head, he also managed to pull down some gum.  Ugh.

Oh, such an eventful day.  Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Night,

LBM

Little Buddy's Momma

PS:  After my friend S commented on how clean the house was yesterday, I decided to take a picture of what the living room looks like about an hour and a half after Little Buddy wakes up.  Or should I say Hurricane Little Buddy. :)
